Autumn is here!

Creating a wreath using dried hydrangeas, grasses, and Judas penny (also known as Lunaria) can be a beautiful way to capture the essence of autumn.

Follow this simple guide to craft your own stunning wreath. Materials Needed:

- Greens like eucalyptus, fir and conifer branches to create a natural foundation.

- Dried Hydrangeas: Gather a few stems, making sure the flowers are completely dried.

- Dried Grasses: Choose various types for texture and movement.

- Judas Penny (Lunaria): The silvery seed pods add a unique touch.

- Wreath Base: A grapevine, straw, or our wreath base you can buy in our webshop.

- Optional> Floral Wire: For securing the elements.

- Scissors or Wire Cutters: To trim the stems.

- Ribbon or Twine: For hanging.

Steps to Make the Wreath:

  1. Prepare the Base: Start with your wreath base. If you’re using a twig base, check if you can easily attach the stems by tucking them between the twigs or using floral wire for extra security.
  1. Arrange the Dried Flowers: Lay out your dried hydrangeas and grasses on the wreath base. Experiment with different placements before securing them. Group flowers and grasses in clusters for a balanced look.
  1. Secure the Elements: Start by securing the fir and conifer branches as the foundation of your wreath. Before tucking in the dried flowers and grasses, look for areas where twigs naturally cross on the base. These are ideal spots to anchor and hold everything in place securely. If desired, use wire to secure it more firmly, especially delicate pieces.
  1. Incorporate Judas Penny: Position the Judas penny seed pods in between the flowers and grasses for contrast and texture. Secure them similarly in between the green and grasses.
  1. Finish with Ribbon: Once you're satisfied with the arrangement, create a loop with a ribbon or twine for hanging. You can also tie a bow for added decoration.
  1. Display: Find a perfect spot to hang your wreath, whether it’s on a door, wall, or even as a centrepiece on a table.

Tips:

- Color Palette: Choose hydrangeas and grasses that complement each other in color. Autumnal shades like deep reds, browns, and soft whites work beautifully.

- Drying Flowers: If you haven’t dried your hydrangeas yet, hang them upside down in a dark, dry place for a couple of weeks until they’re fully dried.

- Seasonal Variations: You can add seasonal accents like pinecones or acorns for a more festive look. Enjoy your crafting! This wreath will not only enhance your home decor but also reflect the beauty of your garden throughout the autumn season.
